About the Company:

Access Microfinance Holding AG is a strategic investor in the microfinance industry. We operate a network of commercial banks in developing and transition countries sharing a common brand identity and a target group focus on the microenterprise and SME clientele. This network currently comprises seven member banks in Africa and Asia; various others are in preparation for implementation in 2012 and beyond.


Background:

To support the further growth of our banking network, we are currently seeking to recruit an Investment Analyst to join the Berlin-based Investment Unit from 1 July 2012 onwards.


Tasks:

  • Support the sourcing , preparation and execution of new investments in collaboration with the Senior Investment Officer

  • Identify investment opportunities (screening of new markets or particular investment opportunities)

  • Once investment opportunities are identified, support the business planning and financial forecasting process;

    • Prepare investment proposal documentation for the Supervisory Board;
    • Support the identification of potential co-investors, refinancers and technical assistance funding agencies;
    • If necessary, produce banking license application documentation for submission to the respective central banks;
    • Liaise closely with these partners to ensure timely completion of their own internal approval processes;
    • In cooperation with AH Management and the Legal Department, negotiate the transaction terms of such investments and ensure timely completion of legal transaction documentation.
  • Participate in the controlling and oversight of existing investee companies, i.e.

    • Review incoming financial reports from network banks (as per assigned portfolio) for accuracy and completeness;
    • Identify significant target deviations or other unexpected trends at network banks;
    • Carry out valuations of network banks as per contractually defined methodology;
    • Depending on experience, possibly take over Board seats in investee companies.
  • Other tasks, e.g.

    • Review, coordinate or negotiate refinancing transactions to network banks; Process swap transactions under the Share Swap Policy; Produce slides, charts & tables for quarterly AH meetings; Support drafting of funding applications.


    Eligibility Criteria:

    • At least 3 years of work experience in the field of (micro)finance, preferably with experience in negotiating equity/debt transactions or launching start-ups;

    • Academic degree in Economics, Business or another field related to (micro)finance;

    • Very good spoken & written English and preferably 1-2 other languages that are relevant to our investment pipeline (e.g. French, Russian, Arabic etc.);

    • Strong knowledge of financial, investment and transaction terminology (ratios, concepts, etc.)

    • Strong Excel skills;

    • Experience with business planning and financial projections for microfinance institutions;

    • Background knowledge of the microfinance industry (and especially the type of organizations that we work with) is highly desirable;

    • Prior operative experience in microfinance is advantageous but not indispensable;

    • Ability to travel (approx. 25 percent) to developing and transition countries
