CEO - The Caucasus and Central Asia


About the Role

We seek an experienced banker and development finance expert to join our expanding network of Greenfield banks in Central Asia and the Caucasus region. As CEO of an AccessBank you will be responsible for developing the lending and operations businesses, and ensuring high professional standards are maintained throughout the bank.

The bank has already established a reputation as a microfinance market leader with high ethical standards and you will be responsible for the next phase of growth. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing, developing and training a team of local staff and developing products and procedures
  • Representing the bank in the local community
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with shareholders, and the local banking authorities
  • Identifying and pursuing growth opportunities for the bank and attracting the necessary funding, both locally and internationally
  • Implementing policies and procedures in line with AccessHolding standards

You will report to the Board of Directors and LFS Financial Systems GmbH and will apply the LFS approach of managing a dedicated house bank for micro and small business and the low and medium income strata.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with line management experience in an MFI to build on that experience in a general management role in a fast-growing global network of microfinance banks.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • At least ten years’ work experience, including at least five years’ experience in a bank, credit or microfinance institution, with exposure to SME, corporate or retail banking
  • At least five years’ experience in a line management role including participating in a team responsible for the overall management of a bank, with evidence of strong managerial skills and ability to develop the skills of others.
  • Proven ability to achieve excellent business results in a difficult operating environment
  • Evidence of successfully implementing commercial and performance-based microfinance approaches and best-practice microlending technologies
  • At least three years’ work experience in transition countries in Eastern Europe or the Former Soviet Union, preferably in a start-up situation
  • Masters degree in economics, business or finance-related subject
  • Proficiency in Russian and English. Knowledge of other local languages would be an asset.
  • Evidence of a genuine interest in a long-term career in the field of micro and SME finance

This is a permanent position and is immediately available.  Compensation will be competitive.
